Rombergpark is a botanical garden located not far from the center of Dortmund. Its total area is about 65 hectares. Rombergpark has the largest horticultural collection of bushes and trees in Germany. The garden was established in 1822 as the Romberg family's English landscape park. The former English landscape park was expanded in 1927 with the addition of a botanical garden.
Today the garden contains a historic English landscape park with a lot of different monuments. An arboretum contains thousands of species of woody plants. Some of the oldest trees are the tallest in all of North Rhine-Westphalia. There is a terrace with palm trees. The park also has four greenhouses (1000 m2 total area) for cactus and succulents, ferns, tropical plants, and camellias, jasmine, and lemons. Later there were joined rare varieties such as the Hungarian oak, a hickory nut from America, an old red oak on the northern pond, robinias and etc.
